Program addresses the technology design aspects of high-brightness LEDs, principally in lighting and illumination

EDN's Designing with LEDs workshop will be held on May 4, 2011 in San Jose, CA, and on September 27, 2011 in Boston, MA.

Highlights of the workshop program include:

  • The plenary LED manufacturers' panel, featuring representatives from Cree, Lumileds, and Osram, will focus on the relationship between LED drive current and lifetime.
  • Industry luminary and perennially top-rated speaker Cary Eskow will give the morning keynote, covering the newest advancements in LED technology and applications.
  • This hands-on workshop was created for design engineers and systems architects who need to learn and explore drive and control electronics, optics, and thermal management options for the newest generation of solid-state illumination components.  The workshop classes will provide education and training on design considerations for the power drive stage, thermal management options, and secondary optics of LED lighting, including:  LED system reliability, de-rating capacitors, dimming considerations, efficiency in drive stages & power factor correction, government and industry guidelines and regulations, off-grid lighting, selecting secondary optics and system communication and networking.
