DesignCon2011: 'Teardowns' Expose Dell Streak, Samsung Galaxy and Microsoft Kinect

Tektronix CEO Fireside Chat and Engineering Salary Research Round out Theatre Program, Culminating with a 15-Year Anniversary Celebration.

The projects, selected by Ron Wilson, Editorial Director, EDN and EE TimesDesign Lines, include a "smackdown" comparison of the Dell Streak and Samsung Galaxy tablets conducted by UBM Electronics editorial director Brian Fuller and EDN technology editor Paul Rako and, separately, an analysis and look inside the hottest holiday gift of the season, Microsoft's Kinect gaming device under the direction of EDN editor Brian Dipert and iFixit CEO Kyle Wiens.

The teardowns will be held from 2-4 pm, Tuesday, February 1 in the ChipHead Theater. Also, session attendees can swipe their badges for a chance to win one of the devices.

In addition to attending the keynotes from executives at Agilent, Rambus and Xilinx, and fourteen technical tracks, attendees will also be able to listen in on EE Times' EE Life Editorial Director Brian Fuller's Fireside Chat with Amir Aghdaei, Tektronix CEO, as Amir reflects upon Tek's 65 years in the business and design challenges in the years ahead.  The fireside chat takes place from 4-4:30 pm in the ChipHead Theatre.

Rick Nelson, Editorial Director of Test & Measurement World will host a theater session entitled "What are You Worth? The Test and Measurement World Salary Survey Results" from 1:00 pm - 1:50 pm.  Engineers will be able to learn if their salary is keeping up with their growing set of skills and responsibilities.  Benchmark comparisons round out the discussion which concludes with an exploration of new trends in the engineering profession.

With a record number of exhibitors, DesignCon maintains its position as the industry's most prestigious electronics design conference. Celebrating its 15-year anniversary, the conference will host parties for exhibitors and attendees on February 1st from 4:45 pm to 6 pm and on February 2nd from 5 pm to 6 pm. During the party on February 1, the DesignCon Vision Award winners will be announced.
