EE Times Group Announces ARM Techcon 2010 Theatre Programming

Free Exhibit Hall Program Includes ARM Powered Corvette Interactive Display, MBED Robot Challenge, Selecting The Right ARM IP, Cortex A15 and Linaro Sessions

Oct 26, 2010

WHAT: EE Times Group (www.eetimes.com), a UBM company and the daily source of essential business and technical information for the electronics industry's decision makers, today announced the free educational sessions taking place at the 2010 ARM Technology Conference Program (www.eetimes.com/armconference).

The annual ARM Technology Conference attracts the technology elite, system developers employing the ARM architecture, chip teams working with ARM silicon IP and tools, and the entire ARM Connected Community®.

The ARM Technology Conference includes 60+ classes and tutorials covering the latest trends, design strategies and tools, providing in depth knowledge about achieving the highest level of market differentiation in ARM technology-based products, and an interactive exhibit of over 75 leading ARM Ecosystem partners.

The ARM Techcon Theatre program has been designed by EE Times Group with new innovative learning environments for attendees including a learning lab and an ARM Powered Product Showcase on the exhibit floor. The programming has been designed to teach engineers and systems developer's fundamentals and advanced techniques for utilizing ARM processors and IP in an interactive and entertaining environment, and consists of a robust line up of free educational sessions including:

  • The ARM Powered Corvette: This full size corvette features a digital instrument cluster/information system and internet connectivity through embedded mobile devices. Attendees will be able to get their 'hands dirty' and see for themselves how the car and technology work together.   Embedded technology also includes a i.MX 51 hardware with a digital cluster head unit enabled by ARM Partners including QNX, Texas Instruments, Fujitsu and NVIDIA.
  • Are System Developers Ready for Applications to Drive and Define a New World Order?:  Moderated by Ron Wilson, Director of Content and Media, EE Times Group with panelists: Ashok Mehta, Sr. Manager, TSMC; Michael (Mac) McNamara, VP & General Manager, Cadence; Peter Ryser, Xilinx; Dave Rusling, Linaro CTO, ARM; and Vahid Ordoubadian, Broadcom Corp., Sr. Manager, Engineering Mobile Platform Group.
  • System Coherency for the Cortex A15 & Mali Processors- selecting the right system IP for performance & power efficiency. Coherency is not new news from a computer science point of view, massively parallel computing architectures have been at it for years! It is potentially difficult to get right, particularly in power sensitive applications. GPU to CPU IO coherency and inter CPU cluster full coherency will be a must for high performance design starts in 2011. Find out how ARM System IP can get it done.
  •  ARM Software Optimization: John Cornish - EVP & GM System Design Division, ARM will lead this session which provides a detailed introduction to the ARM tools solutions, which will enable developers to get the very best from their ARM processor-based systems, be it a multi-core applications processor or a microcontroller.
  • The Mbed Robot Challenge on Nov. 10th and 11th will showcase ARM A-class processors/android working alongside M-class microcontrollers. The challenge will entail racing an mbed-powered robot controlled over Bluetooth by an Android mobile phone, with the aim to achieve the fastest lap time. There will also be workstations allowing attendees to sit down and code automated or improved robots using mbed, such as recorded command sequences or line following, to achieve even faster times. The winner will receive a smartphone and mbed robot, with 5 runner-up contestants receiving an mbed robot.
  • Linaro Overview, Community and New Development Platforms: Linaro's mission is to make it easier and faster to develop Linux-based open source devices. It is a collaborative not-for-profit engineering organization founded by ARM, IBM, TI, Samsung, ST-Ericsson and Freescale. Wednesday, November 10th marks the end of the first six-month engineering cycle (10.11) and the start of 11.05. Find out how Linaro works, the focus of 10.11 plans for 11.05 and how you can benefit from this work or get involved with the Linaro community. At the end of the presentation, Linaro members will show and discuss their new development platforms.
