Processors with multiple cores are already being used for very high performance systems. With each passing quarter, an increasing number of applications are hitting the limits of what a single core can handle without burning up. Replicating very powerful, or even modest, processor cores can serve the needs of some applications. Many systems already include a hierarchy of general-purpose and specialized processors like digital signal processors (DSPs) or network processors and video accelerators to boost performance and optimize power. The right mix depends on the application.

Rick Merritt, Editor at Large, EE Times and Tom Starnes, Processor Analyst, Objective Analysis served as the virtual conference's co-chairs.

Linley Gwennap, Founder and principal analyst of The Linley Group presented the keynote presentation "The State of Multicore Processing."

Sessions in the technical program included 101: The Architectural Options; Software Development Tools for Multicore Systems; and Virtualization Technology. The program was supported by a "Content Pavilion" on the show floor, housing a rich compendium of available content and resources from UBM's EE Times Group and the platinum and gold event sponsors, including archived webinars, technical papers, design articles and teardowns.

The event includes an Auditorium and Exhibit Hall with booths from platinum sponsor Wind River; gold sponsors Freescale Semiconductor, IBM, Intel and Tilera; and silver sponsor Mentor Embedded.  In the Networking Lounge event attendees were able to chat with peers one-on-one or in group chats.  All presentations were immediately available on demand.

The virtual event drew 1408 registrants and 382 live attendees.
