Nearly 700 Business Technology Professionals Weigh In On Adopting Windows 7 In The Enterprise

Research Summary:

In July 2009, business technology professionals weighed in on their Windows 7 deployment plans. At the time, there was a general feeling of discontent with Microsoft's direction.  Now, our survey shows that IT pros have warmed considerably to Microsoft's latest desktop OS. The nearly 700 business technology professionals responding to our InformationWeek Analytics Practical Migration: Windows 7 survey, are far more embracing of Windows 7 in the enterprise than just under a year ago. In 2010, there's a significant change in the adoption rate of Windows 7 in addition to more positive response in testing results.  As business technology professionals anticipate deploying Windows 7 in the future, it is essential to start early and develop a migration plan.  This report provides a roadmap for migration, as well as best practices, tips, tools and methodologies to streamline the migration process.

Findings:  

  • Today, 82% of companies with more than 500 employees have plans to deploy Windows 7, compared with just 62% in July of 2009.
  • More than half of business technology professionals classified Windows 7 as an "excellent" OS in 2010 compared to only 34% in 2009.

"Our respondent pool was split evenly between companies with 500 to 5,000 employees and those with more than 5,000 employees," says Lorna Garey, Content Director of InformationWeek Analytics.
