Multicore Expo Headliners to Address State-of-the-Art in Multicore Technology Co-located with ESC Silicon Valley, April 26-29

Apr 14, 2010

EL DORADO HILLS, Calif., April 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Multicore Expo (www.multicore-expo.com), the premier forum devoted to the multicore technologies that are transforming the embedded computing industry, announced today that key figures from Huawei Technologies, Freescale Semiconductor, Texas Instruments, and Wind River will deliver headliner presentations that provide insight into pivotal aspects of multicore technology. In addition, the Multicore Expo, co-located with the Embedded Systems Conference (www.embedded.com/sv) from April 26-29, 2010 at the San Jose Convention Center, will include three days of technical training and an exclusive Multicore Expo trade show.

Challenging high performance computing problems and attractive revenue have made the cellular networking equipment business the place to be "king of the hill and top of the heap." Well, the city is getting rougher and richer with the advent of 4G. Alan Gatherer, CTO of the Baseband SoC division at Huawei will present "Why Frank Sinatra was really singing about multicore in next generation cellular networks." Making an analogy to Sinatra's "New York, New York", Gatherer will describe the challenges of designing multicore processing into cellular networks.

Freescale's director of global network segment marketing, Preet Virk, continues the next generation network theme with his presentation "From Users to Service Providers - Multicore Is Making A Difference with Each Connection." Virk's headliner presentation goes on to describe how video, gaming, business applications and mobile broadband are driving an explosion of network content and how service providers are challenged to improve capital expenditure efficiencies, while building networks capable of deploying revenue-generating applications.

Taking a more celestial perspective, Gene Frantz, as principal fellow at Texas Instruments, will present "What to do with a Billion Transistors." Frantz's presentation will entice the audience to contemplate the ultimate goal of multicore architectures and recognize the capabilities and limitations of both the technology and the users of the technology. Frantz will move the audience from the ground warfare to the heavens and let us imagine what the ultimate computer might look like.

From a practical standpoint, Wind River's CTO, Tomas Evensen, will present "Surviving the Software Avalanche: Simplifying Multicore." Early adopters have discovered that in the same way multicore systems magnify the challenges we face as an industry, multicore can also amplify and accelerate the value of the devices we deliver. Evensen's headliner presentation illustrates how multicore software simplifies the achievement of multiprocessing advantages, using examples ranging from network equipment to multi-function printers.

In addition to the headliner presentations, the three-day Multicore Expo program will include thought-provoking panel discussions, in-depth technical sessions, hands-on labs, and sponsored presentations, all of which will cover a wide range of topics related to the practical application of multicore technology. The Multicore Expo will consist of a wide variety of turn-key exhibits from leaders in the multicore industry, as well as a theatre, open to all attendees, where sponsors will deliver presentations that highlight specific multicore technologies.

"If you plan to integrate multicore technology into your next generation system, Multicore Expo will provide you with the practical training to overcome the challenges associated with multicore programming, debug, and optimization for embedded applications," said Markus Levy, Multicore Expo conference chair. "In addition, the headliner presentations, aimed at engineers and management alike, will be a great way for attendees to gauge where the embedded multicore industry is headed."

Sponsors of the Multicore Expo include Wind River (Signature), Freescale (Platinum), Texas Instruments (Gold), as well as the following Silver sponsors: CebaTech, Imagination Technologies, Netronome, Plurality, Synopsys, and Tilera. Additional sponsors include Arteris, B Labs, Cofluent Design, Concurrent Computer, ElementCXI, Enea, IBM, MIPS Technologies, Penton Group, PolyCore Software, Real-Time Systems, Sonics, Target Compiler, and TenAsys.

Information about Multicore Expo registration is available at www.multicore-expo.com. The cost to attend the 3-day technical training at Multicore Expo is $995 before April 23rd.
