SAN FRANCISCO, Jan. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- EE Times Group, a UBM company [UBM: L], announced today the launch of the NXP LPC1100 Cortex-M0 Design Challenge (www.LPC1100challenge.com), a six month contest and community sponsored by NXP Semiconductors and Digi-Key Corporation.

The objective of the Design Challenge is to foster a social community where electronics engineering contestants can build, test, and display their designs, based on the NXP's LPC1100 and the LPCXpresso development tool platform. The challenge is organized in three phases - Conceptual Design, Hardware Design and Final Prototype.

"This design challenge is a great opportunity for engineers to show their expertise in 32-bit design," said Geoff Lees, VP & GM NXP Semiconductors. "With prices starting at just 65 cents, designers can now get 32-bit performance, at power levels and prices usually attributed to much lower-performance devices."

A set of expert judges, as well Community Member peers, will rate and vote for one overall winner for each Phase. In addition, during each phase, Community Members will be eligible for prizes based on their community participation and user feedback on the best LPCXpresso enhancement suggestions. The contestant that makes it through the three phases and is awarded the Design Challenge's Grand Prize will win $3,000 in AppleĀ® gift cards and will be announced at the UBM Embedded Systems Conference in Chicago, Illinois the week of June 7, 2010.

All entrants who submit a valid title, abstract, and block diagram, will receive a FREE LPCXpresso development tool.

Richard Nass, Editorial Director, EE Times Group agrees. "The social aspect of peers rating, voting and even collaborating on the best designs will make the contest more exciting. If you're looking to develop an entry-level system based on the ARM architecture, NXP's LPCXpresso developer kit for the LPC1100 provides a great starting point. And it lets you use all the tools you're already familiar with."
