SAN FRANCISCO, Aug. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- O'Reilly Media, Inc. and TechWeb, co-producers of the annual Web 2.0 Expo, today announced the first Web 2.0 Expo New York Launch Pad, taking place during Web 2.0 Expo New York at the Javits Convention Center November 16-19, 2009. Launch Pad is a program designed to spotlight cutting edge and innovative new companies to the Web 2.0 market. This year, Launch Pad focuses on companies that are transforming the world in which we live. A call for Launch Pad submissions is now open and will close on September 25, 2009. To submit a proposal and for more information visit: http://www.web2expo.com/webexny2009/public/cfp/77.

Web 2.0 Expo New York is the leading global gathering of developers, designers, marketers, and business professionals building the next generation Web. This year, the event focuses on the theme "the Power of Less," exploring how the principles of Web 2.0 can turn constraints into opportunities and drive creativity. The event will explore how transparency, participation and collaboration can break down silos and increase efficiencies. With that in mind, Launch Pad challenges Web 2.0 companies to showcase innovative and promising new products and services that withstand the test of venture capital and consumer scrutiny in challenging economic times.

"We're excited to be bringing the Launch Pad program to Web 2.0 Expo New York to explore what the East Coast has to offer," said Brady Forrest, Web 2.0 Expo Co-Chair. "The East Coast has its own rich start up culture so we are looking forward to engaging with media savvy companies- companies that will take advantage of real-time data streams, sensors in phones, the explosion of social media data and beyond."

Web 2.0 Expo New York Launch Pad will feature five finalists selected by a panel from the initial call for submissions. These five will then get five minutes on stage at the event to present a live demo. Web 2.0 Expo New York's audience and a panel of industry experts will review and provide real-time, candid feedback. A People's Choice Winner will be announced at the end of the program where audience members vote using SMS for their top choice based on the demos. Votes will be tabulated in real-time and projected live on screen.

A forum for creativity, engineering, and innovation, Web 2.0 Expo New York includes a multi-track conference, an "unconference" program, a major tradeshow, and many networking events. Conference tracks include: Landscape & Strategy, Design & User Experience, Social Media, Development, Fundamentals, Web 2.0 at Work, Government 2.0, Mobile, Performance and Analytics. The event targets developers, designers, entrepreneurs, marketers, and business professionals embracing Web 2.0 technologies.

Web 2.0 Expo New York 2009 welcomes industry leading companies that are participating and exhibiting in this year's show, including Diamond sponsors: IBM and Microsoft; Silver sponsors: Awareness, Blue Kiwi Software, Jive Software, Layered Technologies Inc., Neustar, Pringo, Qtask, Rackspace Hosting, Sony Ericsson and Vignette.
