SAN FRANCISCO, July 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, TechOnline formally launched DigitalHomeDesignLine.com, the one-stop resource aimed squarely at designers of systems and software for the digital home. DigitalHome is TechOnline's 20th design-oriented community and like the others provides online support environments for engineers and engineering managers. It offers detailed technical information to improve their designs and develop their expertise in specific application or technology areas.

Each of the DesignLine sites delivers how-to articles, blogs, technical papers, webinars, news, new product information, forums, book extracts and other content on a variety of engineering topics related to the application of the technology space it covers. And the engineering community has spoken: traffic to the complete family of sites is currently over one million page views per month.

"The digital home is an exciting space for design engineers," said Patrick Mannion, TechOnline's editorial director. "And a DesignLine is the perfect environment for innovators to find and help generate solutions to the numerous design issues related to this segment of the market." In the case of Digital Home, "We're thrilled that Maury Wright has agreed to apply his experience and innovative drive to the role of editorial and community lead for this continually evolving area."

Wright most recently was editorial director for EDN Worldwide where he specialized in covering computers and peripherals, with an interest in multimedia. His design engineering experience included work at General Dynamics and Computation, focused on microprocessors.

"Shows like CES and the Embedded Systems Conference (http://www.cmp-egevents.com/web/escb) really raised awareness about the growth in the digital home market, and I see it continuing to expand for the next several years, meaning there'll be some significant issues to be dealt with," said Wright.

Those issues helped define the site's coverage charter, which encompasses access and services, automation and security, entertainment, computing and networking. "We expect that our online community will provide the means by which designers can grapple with these problems and lay the groundwork for future concepts and development," said Wright. "I'm excited to be part of the dedicated and creative team at TechOnline."

That team includes teardown specialists Portelligent and the new site will form the perfect complement to that group's Digital Home and Mobile Computing Channel (http://www.teardown.com/Channels/HomeAndMobile.aspx) and its analysis and reports of related products.

Topics for current DesignLines range from technologies such as analog, DSPs and FPGAs, to applications such as power management, automotive, video/imaging, industrial control and mobile handsets. In addition, TechOnline recently announced the launch of three DesignLines aimed at the European design market.
