SAN FRANCISCO, Jan. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- CMP's Game Group today announced videogame industry veteran and mobile game industry pioneer Trip Hawkins will keynote GDC Mobile 2007. In his keynote titled, "Making Mobile Phones the Ultimate Game Platform," Hawkins will speak about mobile phones as a first-rate platform and how a "craftsman" approach must be taken to make the most of the mobile platform and to overcome various obstacles. He will offer lessons from media history and from early examples of mobile innovation. GDC Mobile is taking place March 5-6 at the Moscone Convention Center North in San Francisco.

"I am thrilled to have Trip Hawkins, a game industry legend kick-off GDC Mobile with such an important topic of discussion," said Robert Tercek, founding chairman of GDC Mobile. "Trip will challenge the entire industry to rise from the lethargy of derivative products and safe bets to take advantage of the unique aspects of the wireless platform."

Hawkins is chairman and CEO of Digital Chocolate, a creator of innovative mobile phone games and social applications, such as Tower Bloxx and MLSN Sports Picks. He is responsible for the strategic focus, overall direction, and performance of the company. Hawkins has been a new media pioneer for 30 years. Early in his career, he played a key role in defining the personal computer at Apple. He went on to found Electronic Arts and built the company into the industry leader. Hawkins also founded 3DO, a pioneer in digital video, network gaming, and social communities. He received an MBA from Stanford University and developed his own major at Harvard University, where he graduated magna cum laude with a degree in Strategy and Applied Game Theory. He was also the first business executive to be inducted into the Hall of Fame by the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences.

In addition to more than 50 sessions, attendees have the opportunity to participate in the Mobile Game Innovation Hunt, a much-anticipated highlight of the conference. The competition gives developers and publishers the opportunity to pitch their most innovative game to a panel of expert judges and the audience for a chance to win unique prizes. Submissions are now being accepted through Feb. 2. This hour-long session will immediately be followed by the GDC Mobile Networking Reception on Monday, March 5, from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m.
