MANHASSET, N.Y., Oct. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- CMP Technology, a marketing solutions company serving the technology industry through innovative marketing ideas and targeted media, today announced the return of Tony Uphoff as President of its Business Technology Group (BTG), effective October 23. BTG is an extensive brand portfolio, which serves the information needs of more than one million C-level executives and IT professionals. The portfolio includes industry-leading brands such as InformationWeek, the TechWeb Network and Interop®, North America's largest and most comprehensive IT event. Uphoff will report to Steve Weitzner, President and CEO of CMP Technology.

"We are excited to welcome Tony back to CMP," Weitzner said. "Tony has a keen sense of the complex and rapidly changing technology industry and a strong understanding of our customers' needs. He will concentrate on the strategic positioning of our portfolio of enterprise brands and help accelerate the transformation of CMP Technology into a multimedia marketing solutions company."

An industry veteran with over 20 years' experience, Uphoff built a strong track record at CMP throughout the 1990's, creating the vision and implementing the strategy for InformationWeek, the largest and most influential community of IT buyers and providers. He developed a 360-degree marketing approach, surrounding customers with InformationWeek's integrated media platform and delivering immense value to advertisers. Under Tony's leadership, InformationWeek became recognized as the top publication among IT media, a position it continues to hold. In addition, Uphoff strengthened BTG's outstanding brand portfolio, based on a strong commitment to editorial quality and innovation.

"I couldn't be more enthusiastic about joining the CMP team," Uphoff said.

"The new technology cycle we are entering, along with the people, brands and assets the company has right now, make the BTG uniquely suited to redefine the business computing marketplace and in turn, the competitive landscape."

Uphoff rejoins CMP from VNU Business Media, where he was publisher of The Hollywood Reporter and President of the Film & Performing Arts Group. Prior to VNU, Tony was vice president of technology media at Advanstar Communications. Earlier in his career, he worked for Beliefnet and Ziff Davis.

Uphoff succeeds Jeff Patterson, who decided to leave CMP to pursue other opportunities. "I would like to thank Jeff Patterson for his tireless efforts on behalf of CMP. He has been a close colleague for the past ten years and I wish him well in his new endeavors," Weitzner added.
