CMP Media's Independent Testing Services Validate Juniper Networks NetScreen-ISG 2000 Performance Claims
Independent Testing Services powered by Network Computing Labs™ (ITS) recently completed an independent validation testing report for the Juniper Networks NetScreen-ISG 2000 integrated firewall and virtual private network (VPN) system. From July to September 2004, ITS tested and verified that the NetScreen-ISG 2000 can sustain 2-Gbps firewall throughput performance and 1 Gbps 3DES/SHA1 VPN performance with any packet size. Additional performance metrics showed that the NetScreen-ISG 2000 can negotiate between 22,000 and 30,000 TCP sessions per second, with little-to-no ill effect on HTTP performance.
"With its ability to sustain very high transaction rates and extremely low latencies at any packet size, the NetScreen-ISG 2000 has effectively 'raised the bar' on traditional firewall and VPN performance," said Kevin Cooke, Director of Independent Testing Services. "We are seeing several orders of magnitude paradigm shift in firewall performance metrics such as end-to-end delay, which is now measured in microseconds versus the more familiar milliseconds."
"These tests validate that the NetScreen-ISG 2000 is an ideal platform for enterprises deploying new applications, such as VoIP and streaming media, which require small packet, low latency performance," said David Flynn, vice president products, Security Products Group, Juniper Networks (NASDAQ: JNPR). "Security processing for the NetScreen-ISG 2000 is provided by a unique ASIC module, which combines NetScreen's next-generation security ASIC, the GigaScreen(3), and Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGA), delivering the performance capacity to address future security processing needs."
In addition to the GigaScreen(3) ASIC, the NetScreen-ISG 2000 has three expansion slots for Security Modules, designed to run security applications over and above the standard firewall and VPN applications, such as intrusion detection and prevention.
This ITS validation test continues the trend of relevant real-world third-party testing. Testing that remains true to technology consumers by providing technology vendors a respected and objective testing service that delivers impartial assessments that go well beyond marketing hype.
