Electronics Supply & Manufacturing today announced the winners of its 2005 Supply & Design Chain Champions Awards at the Global Supply Chain Summit taking place at the Fairmont Hotel San Jose. Every year, Electronics Supply & Manufacturing solicits nominations from readers, and its editors review and select five outstanding case studies for publication in the November 2005 issue. This year's Champions are IBM Corp., Jabil Circuit Inc., Logitech International SA, CSS Laboratories Inc. and Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. -- all of which have risen to the challenge of tackling major supply and design chains challenges and are being recognized for their best-in-class performance. The five companies were honored at a keynote luncheon on Tuesday, October 25 at the Global Supply Chain Summit.

Nominations for the Supply & Design Chain Champions began early in 2005 with a call for nominations to readers, who were asked to provide detailed reasons for their nominations and provide supporting data including information on goals achieved. In addition to the traditional financial and business metrics, nominees were also selected on product innovation and management teams that challenge conventional wisdom, setting the example for their peers both within their own companies and across the industry.

"This year's winners are champions not because they have found the definitive solution to intractable supply and design chain problems, but because they are all innovators and are out in front of the curve with their supply and design chain practices," said Bruce Rayner, editor-in-chief of Electronics Supply & Manufacturing. "All five Champions have attributes in common, like their desire to challenge the status quo, and be decisive, developing a strategy, communicating it effectively and then implementing with precision."

The five winners of this year's Champions Awards are:

-- IBM Corp.: the world's largest information technology company with operations spanning hardware, software applications and consulting

-- Jabil Circuit Inc.: an electronic product solutions company providing comprehensive electronics design, manufacturing and product management services to global electronics and technology companies

-- Logitech International SA: designs, manufactures and markets personal interface products that enable people to effectively work, play and communicate in the digital world

-- CSS Laboratories Inc.: a provider of computing solutions for Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM), providing customized hardware computing platforms that can be easily integrated with a customer's hardware and/or software for their specific application

-- Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd: a global leader in semiconductor, telecommunication, digital media and digital convergence technologies

All five winners will be featured with case-studies in a special issue of Electronics Supply & Manufacturing and on its Web site, www.my-esm.com, in November.

The Global Supply Chain Summit brings together industry leaders and features three days of keynotes, presentations, and panels that address the strategies and tactics necessary for electronics companies to build successful global supply chains. The theme of this year's Summit was Architecting Value for Your Global Supply Chain. Presentations focused on innovation and best practices from companies such as Amkor, Avnet, Celestica, Cisco, Systems, IBM, Intel, Microsoft, and others.
