CMP Media (www.cmp.com) has named InformationWeek Editor John Soat, a 15-year veteran of the company's flagship brand, to the newly created position of Webcast Anchor for TechWeb, the business technology network (www.techweb.com). Soat's appointment underscores CMP Media's commitment to online video in high tech media. In addition to his role as primary on-camera personality, Soat will be responsible for enhancing CMP's current Webcast portfolio as well as creating new video products and services.

"TV news is all about credibility, knowledge and personality; Internet TV will be no different except that on the Internet, we can target it to the right audience," said Mike Azzara, CMP VP/Group Director, Internet Business. "CMP tapped John to become the primary webcast anchorman because of his edgy personality, great depth of IT industry experience and strong connection with the audience. The pairing of John and Paul Way (the company's Webcast Associate Publisher) is a knockout combination and shows the sharp focus CMP has on growth of new products and services in the video arena." Way, a veteran B2B editor and online publisher, was appointed Associate Publisher of Webcasting late last year.

Steve Weitzner, Chief Operating Officer of CMP Media, called the appointment a "clarion call investment in the future of B2B web video" and said, "We're proud to be the first B2B media company in the world to name a webcast anchorman, and the fact that it's John Soat makes a clear statement about the seriousness of our companywide commitment to web video as a medium that our customers are demanding, and in which our audiences are delighting."

Soat brings to this position an enormous range of IT-industry contacts on both the vendor and customer side; an intimate knowledge of how technology is changing everything from entertainment to education to business to healthcare; broad name recognition and respect from his storied tenure as a top-level InformationWeek reporter, news editor and ultimately editor; and an expertise in all facets of pop culture that will add an entertaining dimension to TechWeb's new video products.
