CMP Media's DV Media Group today announced that conference attendees at Digital Video Expo East ( http://www.dvexpo/east ) will have the opportunity to obtain in-depth instruction in the industry's major applications and, if tested successfully, will obtain DV CERTIFIED status. This second annual event-a spin-off of Digital Video Expo West, which launched in 1997 as the industry's first-event exclusively focused on digital video technology -- will be held in New York City at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center, July 8 - 11, 2003, and is the East Coast's largest and most comprehensive conference and exhibition focused on providing information on cutting-edge tools, techniques and technologies to the professional digital video community.

DIGITAL VIDEO EXPO EAST's DV CERTIFIED provides its students with three consecutive days of hands-on training by professional instructors from Moviola, a Los Angeles-based organization dedicated to educating DV practitioners on the latest technological advancements in video and film. DV CERTIFIED is produced in cooperation with Moviola, which serves as the official partner, as well as hardware sponsors Apple and Hewlett Packard, and accessory sponsor Petrol.

"The launch of DV CERTIFIED at DIGITAL VIDEO EXPO WEST in Los Angeles last year was a tremendous success," said Scott Gentry, DV Media Group Director, "and we're excited to offer our world-class training and certification program for the first time to attendees at DIGITAL VIDEO EXPO EAST in New York City."

Training and certification will be offered for Apple Final Cut Pro 4.0 and Avid Xpress DV 3.5. Although students will obtain in-depth instruction on application-specific tools and techniques, general topics include:

-- Fundamentals -- Covering basic setup of each application -- adjusting and customizing preferences and settings, capturing video/audio, project management, editing sync material, trim sequences, slip and slide editing, audio editing, video generators, creating titles and final output including laying back to videotape and exporting audio as an OMF file for use in a sound sweetening environment.

-- Advanced Editing Techniques for Storytellers -- Rip, Roll, Slip, Slide, Trim, Replace are all tools for speeding the editing process and allowing editors to tell their stories more effectively. However, many editors concentrate too much on the tools and not on the story. Attendees will learn how to effectively and efficiently use these tools in Final Cut Pro or Xpress DV, while concentrating on the story.

-- Color Correction -- With the popularity of DV video, editors of low budget features and documentaries are facing problems in the post-production suite stemming from mistakes in the production field or problems with the video. Attendees will learn the application-specific tricks of color correcting in DV's 4:1:1 color space to fix field problems, create stunning effects and prepare video for legal broadcast in the SDI world. This class will cover color balancing, shot-to-shot color correction, and secondary color correction.

Class time is divided between demonstration and practice, but includes at least 8 hours of dedicated hands-on lab time.

As a bonus, DV CERTIFIED attendees will also be treated to an exclusive DV Expert Series class on Photoshop by Rich Harrington, author of the best-selling Photoshop for Nonlinear Editors (CMP Books, 2003). This 90-minute session takes a fast-paced, yet in-depth look at the techniques required to create graphics for use with all nonlinear editing systems and motion graphic packages. Participants will learn techniques that work with all systems and across all platforms. The class builds upon a user's basic or intermediate level understanding of Photoshop and moves them to a higher level.
