IntelligentBPM Conference and Expo, the only independent event focused on business performance management, drew over 400 attendees to its inaugural event in San Francisco. Attendees included both business and IT executives from major global corporations who face the most critical issue in business today: how to create a performance management infrastructure to support the demands for greater oversight, accountability, and regulatory compliance. This challenge requires the alignment of business and IT functions to implement trustworthy, robust, and flexible solutions that enhance efficiency and profitability.

Starting on Monday, September 29, Conference Co-Director Mark Smith, a prominent industry analyst and CEO of Ventana Research, set the tone for two days of insight and perspective on the challenges of deploying technology to optimize business efficiency and performance. He was followed by Professor Robert Burgelman, Director of the Stanford Executive Program of the Stanford University Graduate School of Business. Burgelman outlined how business strategy is defined and implemented.

On Tuesday, September 30, Marty Wagner, Associate Administrator for the General Service Administration, detailed the US Government's eGov strategy for consolidating IT functions and implementing standards. The IT Executive Roundtable followed, featuring the Chief Operating Officers for the key business performance management solution providers. These included Robert Ashe, President and COO of Cognos, Godfrey Sullivan, President and COO of Hyperion, and Sanju Bansal, Executive Vice President and COO of MicroStrategy. Mark Smith, CEO and Senior Vice President of Research at Ventana Research, also served on the panel. Moderator David Stodder, Editorial Director of Intelligent Enterprise, initiated a lively debate on the imperatives of business performance management, and the need for increased visibility throughout an organization.

Each day, the keynotes were followed by a total of 40 conference sessions led by 35 top industry experts and business leaders who shared innovative approaches and results achieved with business performance management initiatives.

IntelligentBPM was supported by 23 sponsors and exhibitors including: Actuate, Alphablox, Business Objects, Certive, Cognos, Cornus, CorVu, Crystal Decisions, Databeacon, Geac, Hyperion, Identitech, Informatica, Information Builders, Lingo Computer Design, Lombardi Software, Longview Solutions, MicroStrategy, ProClarity, Razza Solutions, SAP, SymphonyRPM, and ThinkAnalytics. The conference was presented by Intelligent Enterprise and Ventana Research. Conference organizers are looking forward to another successful event in 2004.
