CMP Media Inc. and London-based Emap Computing have joined forces to launch InformationWeek in the United Kingdom. The UK version of the magazine, published fortnightly, will target IT decision makers whose purchasing responsibilities extend across the enterprise.

Scheduled to debut this March, the UK edition of InformationWeek will address the challenges faced by IT professionals responsible for managing multi-platform, distributed information systems. Editorial will feature in- depth product reviews that will utilize the extensive lab facilities offered by both joint-venture partners.

Market research carried out in the UK over the last nine months reveals that IT professionals there want a comprehensive publication to meet their varied demands, while advertisers want a single vehicle that will reach these volume purchasers. With a controlled circulation of 100,000, InformationWeek will fill both needs, delivering the largest qualified audience of IT professionals at a lower cost per thousand than any other title in the UK.

"For technology managers in the U.S., InformationWeek is the leading provider of news and analysis about information technology and how it impacts the enterprise," said Dan Leeds, President of CMP International. "Working with Emap, we expect it to become the premier source of business solutions for companies in the UK as well." CMP launched the US edition of InformationWeek in 1985. In the years since, the publication's reach has grown to 350,000 readers and all companies in the Fortune 1000.

The joint venture represents the latest move in CMP's strategy to enhance and expand its global presence through licensed, wholly owned and joint- venture titles in the world's highest-consuming high-tech markets. In 1994 CMP launched Informatiques, the fastest growing IT publication in France. As a result of its acquisition of M&T International last year, CMP now offers advertisers access to more than 115 key overseas titles.

CMP Media Inc., now in its 26th year of uninterrupted growth, is the only provider of publishing, marketing and information services to reach the entire spectrum of the high-technology market--the builders, sellers and users of technology. With sales of $418 million in 1996, CMP has marked its quarter century of success with an average yearly growth of 20 percent. All of CMP's publications and a series of innovative news and interactive services are available on the World Wide Web through CMP's TechWeb®, http://www.techweb.com/, the industry's first free daily technology news and interactive services super site, since 1994. CMP Media is also the creator of NetGuide Live (http://www.netguide.com/), the first comprehensive daily online guide to the Net, and First-TV (http://www.first-tv.com/), the Internet's first 24-hour TV/video network.
