CMP Media's Embedded Systems Programming, the technical magazine for engineers involved in designing processor-based electronic systems, named Jim Turley editor-in-chief.

Turley is an acknowledged authority on microprocessor chips, semiconductor intellectual property, computers, and silicon technology. He is the author of seven books, including "The Essential Guide to Semiconductors." He was a former editor of the Microprocessor Report (a three-time winner of the Computer Press Award), and is a frequent speaker at industry events.

Turley's experience includes senior executive management of a global semiconductor IP corporation, three high-tech acquisitions, and a successful IPO. Jim served on several technical advisory boards for high-tech companies in the US and Europe, as well as the advisory board for the Embedded Systems Conference. Turley takes over for Michael Barr, who leaves the publication after a five-year tenure as editor.

"Jim is an excellent fit for the CMP Electronics Group's embedded portfolio. He brings vast knowledge, particularly on the hardware and integration side of the embedded market, excellent writing skills, and a dynamic personality. Best of all, his is a familiar and respected name to magazine and website readers, conference attendees and advertisers," says Paul Miller, vice president/publishing director, CMP Electronics Group.

Turley teams with long-time CMP Group Embedded Editorial Director Lindsey Vereen to lead a formidable, and complimentary, editorial mission. Embedded Systems Programming, its dedicated web site Embedded.com, and various Embedded Systems Conferences (San Francisco, Boston, Munich, Asia, and China) thoroughly cover the key issues and best practices for defining systems, selecting critical hardware and software components, building systems, and integrating hardware and firmware designs.

"I'm thrilled to be joining Embedded Systems Programming after relying on it myself for so many years," says Turley. "The magazine, the ESC conferences, and the Web site are all premier resources for engineers and developers of consumer electronics, communications, automotive, and industrial systems. We've got exciting changes ahead and I couldn't be happier."

Jim will work out of his home office in Pacific Grove. Contact him via phone at 831-375-8086 or email at jturley@cmp.com.
