Political and economic conditions, and access to technology have an impact on how radiology is practiced in various regions worldwide. In its 2003 mid-July Special Edition, Diagnostic Imaging magazine will explore the global diversity of medical imaging and give subscribers a first-hand look at the issues that affect the lives of their colleagues in the Americas, Europe, Asia-Pacific, Africa and the Middle East.

"The Global Face of Radiology" will explore key themes that include radiology's role in public health initiatives, teleradiology's global reach and international programs to raise imaging standards. It will also feature profiles of international radiology leaders.

"Staying current on the newest and most innovative technologies is a priority for radiologists in industrialized nations, yet radiologists in developing countries face a different set of challenges," said Editor John Hayes. "It's critical that our readers understand these challenges and the efforts being undertaken to overcome them. This Special Edition is a unique opportunity to inform and educate medical imaging professionals about the full range of radiology practice around the world, and radiology's position in the global health arena."

"The Global Face of Radiology" includes a yearlong companion microsite, hosted on www.diagnosticimaging.com. Launched in March 2003 with a Webcast from the European Congress of Radiology annual meeting, the microsite will feature monthly updates with exclusive online global coverage until March 2004.

The 2003 Diagnostic Imaging Special Edition is sponsored by Eastman Kodak Company, and is their 3rd annual sponsorship of this project. In 2001, Kodak was the exclusive sponsor of Diagnostic Imaging's first-ever special edition on "The Future of Medical Imaging" and continued the partnership in 2002 with exclusive sponsorship of "Building a Better Radiologist", which focused on education and training. The Special Edition expands its reach every year and is becoming a global integrated marketing vehicle for Kodak. In 2003, the Special Edition will reach 30,000 qualified subscribers in the U.S., thousands more visitors to the microsite, and for the first time, radiologists across Europe and Asia.
