The nation's top information technology solution providers serving the national, state, local and education branches of the public sector were honored with the first GovernmentVAR Awards at a presentation ceremony held in Washington D.C. last night. The new tributes, from CMP Media's GovernmentVAR magazine, acknowledge the importance of the $140 billion government IT market.

"These awards recognize technology integrators who have demonstrated a clear understanding of the needs and processes specific to the government sector as well as vendors who have consistently provided programs crucial to success within the Channel," says GovernmentVAR Publisher, Robert C. DeMarzo.

SRA International, a company that epitomizes government growth, was named Government Solution Provider of the Year. The Fairfax, VA integrator saw its total government revenue climb 35 percent in 2004 to more than $600 million. With recent acquisitions and major contracts from the Federal Aviation Administration and U.S. Department of Justice, its growth doesn't show signs of slowing.

  Other individual award recipients are:

   * Data Networks of America, Hunt Valley, MD., Education Solution Provider
     of the Year

   * Cott Systems, Worthington, OH, Local Government Solution Provider of
     the Year

   * Emtec Inc., Trenton, N.J., State Government Solution Provider of the
     Year

   * Lockheed Martin, Bethesda, MD, Federal Government Solution Provider of
     the Year

   * Govplace, Irvine, CA., Editor's Choice Award

   * Alex Hart, Director of Public Sector Channel Sales, Symantec
Corporation, Government Channel Executive of the Year

   * Citrix Systems, Government Partner Program of the Year

The solution providers showcased in the GovernmentVAR Awards program were singled out for a variety of factors including revenue and income growth, business expansion, contract wins, technical prowess and service excellence. The executive of the year award was based upon submitted applications and channel market perspective, and the program of the year award was based upon information provided for the Partner Program Guide issue, channel market perspective and other criteria.

The GovernmentVAR Awards ceremony was held in conjunction with the first annual XChange Government Integrator event convened by the CMP Channel Group's XChange Conferences unit at the J.W. Marriott Hotel in Washington, D.C., July 13-14. The presentation ceremony was sponsored by Avnet, Oracle and Symantec.
