CMP Media Inc. has named Joel Deceuster to the new position of Director of Strategic Marketing, announced Kenneth D. Cron, CMP's President of Publishing. A 20-year sales and marketing veteran and self-proclaimed "synergist," Deceuster will create a comprehensive corporate marketing organization within CMP.

"Joel's knowledge of the industry and strong relationships within it will enable him to look at market needs and strategic marketing opportunities for CMP from a top-down perspective," said Cron.

Deceuster, who will report to Cron, will be working closely with CMP's Group Publishers to evaluate marketing opportunities in and across their groups.

"I'm more a 'synergist' than a strategist," said Deceuster. "My goal is to develop synergies between CMP's vast array of print, Internet and international products in order to increase their benefit and value to our customers."

Deceuster returns to CMP from IDG, where his most recent position was Senior Vice President, Worldwide Marketing. Deceuster originally joined CMP in 1983 and spent eight years working with Computer Systems News.

During the past several years Deceuster has served in strategic sales and marketing positions at both Ziff-Davis and IDG. As a result, he has a unique perspective of CMP's competitive environment and tremendous exposure to agencies and customers throughout the high-tech market.

A graduate of Brigham-Young University with a BA in Communications, Deceuster will be based out of CMP's San Mateo office.
