Highlights from Publication's May 12th Issue Reveal Interesting Facts About The Top 500 Highest Paid Executivesnd Top 200 Stock Holdings

The Computer Reseller News 10th Annual Salary Survey -- available in the publication's May 12 issue and online at http://www.crn.com/ -- reveals some interesting findings about the salaries and compensation packages of the computer industry's top 500 highest paid executives and executives who claim the industry's top 200 stock holdings. Following are some of the Salary Survey highlights:

Two of the top five executives on the Computer Reseller News 10th Annual Salary Survey Top 500 Highest Paid Executives list hail from Computer Associates International, Inc. (NYSE: CA). They are Chairman and CEO Charles Wang, number one with a 1996 salary of $6 million, and President and COO Sanjay Kumar, number four with a salary of $3.9 million. In all, five Computer Associates executives made the list and combined, their salaries total more than $12.8 bilion.

Number one on the Computer Reseller News Top 200 Stock Holdings list is Microsoft Chief Executive Officer Bill Gates, whose $33.6 billion dollars in stock holdings is more than double Microsoft board member and number two spot holder Paul Allen's $12.9 billion.

After Gates and Allen, seven other executives on the Top 200 Stock Holdings list have stock holdings valued at greater than $1 billion (and a third of the total nine work for Microsoft): Steven Ballmer, Microsoft Corp. (NASDAQ: MSFT), $7.1 billion; Gordon Moore, Intel Corp. (NASDAQ: INTC), $6.7 billion; Lawrence Ellison, Oracle Corp. (NASDAQ: ORCL), $5.8 billion; Theodore Waitt, Gateway 2000, Inc. (NASDAQ: GATE), $1.9 billion; Martha Ingram, Ingram Micro Inc. (NYSE: IM), $1.9 billion; David Duffel, PeopleSoft, Inc. (NASDAQ: PSFT), $1.2 billion; Michael Dell, Dell Computer Corp. (NASDAQ: DELL), $1.2 billion.

Twenty-five of the Computer ReselleNews 10th Annual Salary Survey Top 500 Highest Paid Executives saw their salaries increase by more than 100 percent between 1995 and 1996.

To illustrate how stock options can boost an executive's net worth, consider that Citrix (NASDAQ: CTXS) executive Mark Templeton, number 498 on the Computer Reseller News Top 500 Highest Paid Executives List, earned a relatively modest $209,000 in 1996, but holds stock options valued at nearly $2 million.
