VARBusiness Magazine has strengthened its editorial staff with three new veteran technology journalists, to better serve the needs of the information-technology (IT) value channel. Steve Lang has joined as strategy editor, and Luc Hatlestad and Carolyn April have become senior writers. The additions are in response to both the increased need for information and analysis within the marketplace and the increased commitment to the solution-provider channel by IT marketers.

VARBusiness Editorial Director Robert DeMarzo explains that with the growing complexity of IT solutions and focus on the midmarket, IT marketers have returned to the traditional solution-provider channel to sell their products and services. "Their return to basics points out the inherent power of the channel, and demonstrates that the partner community served by VARBusiness is integral to the creation and implementation of corporate technology and business strategies," he says.

DeMarzo further notes that because of VARBusiness Magazine's current business success, "we have the resources to make these investments in our future, and these veterans allow us to move to the next level in our coverage."

Steve Lang is working closely with DeMarzo to shape the magazine's management strategy coverage and will place special emphasis on the VARBusiness 500 and the VARBusiness 500franchise event. His assignment also encompasses stories that will help VARBusiness readers better manage their businesses, solution-provider research and cover and feature stories. Previously, Lang was an editor of PC Magazine and editor-in-chief of Institutional Investor. Earlier assignments were within CMP and at McGraw-Hill.

Senior Writer Carolyn April is charged with spearheading VARBusiness' enterprise software coverage along with applications infrastructure, development and chip hardware. Her beat includes IBM, Microsoft, BEA, Siebel, SAP, PeopleSoft and Intel. An award-winning journalist, April worked at InfoWorld for seven years, covering the tech industry in a number of editorial roles, including news editor and online editor.

Luc Hatlestad, as senior writer, is focusing on technology coverage in the areas of software and application development. Being based in San Francisco, he also maintains a watch on Bay area vendors. Prior to joining VARBusiness, Hatlestad was a senior writer at Red Herring magazine, covering a broad range of issues from technology to finance to policy. Previously, he was a reporter for InfoWorld.
