U.S. Secretary of Commerce William M. Daley will deliver the luncheon keynote address at CMP/CommunicationsWeek's Networked Economy Conference at 12 noon on Tuesday, March 18, conference organizers announced today. Secretary Daley's remarks will highlight the Clinton administration's commitment to initiatives in telecommunications and information technology, regulatory issues, and their economic integration in the global marketplace.

Described by President Clinton as a man of "rare effectiveness," Secretary Daley served as Special Counsel to the President for the North American Free Trade Agreement, coordinating the successful campaign to guide passage of the historic trade accord through Congress.

Secretary Daley, a long-time Chicago civil and business leader, was a partner in the law firm of Mayer, Brown & Platt. He was President and Chief Operating Officer of Amalgamated Bank of Chicago from 1990 to 1993, after joining the bank as Vice Chairman in 1989. He also practiced law with the firm of Daley and George of Chicago.

Joining the Secretary for the two-day event, which takes place at The Ritz-Carlton, Tysons Corner in McLean, VA, will be a host of luminaries from the networking arena. Headliners among the more than 40 CEO speakers include: 3Com's Eric Benhamou, America Online's Steve Case, Bay Networks' David House, Cisco's John Chambers, Lucent Technology's Rich McGinn, Netscape's Marc Andreessen and Oracle's Larry Ellison, with a special presentation by Don Tapscott, author of The Digital Economy.

The Networked Economy Conference gives information technology, business and financial management executives the opportunity to rub elbows with some of the biggest names in the industry. More importantly, it also provides technology evolution and investment insights that attendees can apply strategically and tactically in their enterprise.

CMP/CommunicationsWeek launched the Networked Economy Conference in Washington, DC, in September 1991. The event attracts high-ranking officials from high-tech, financial and political arenas. Last fall CMP debuted an online component to the conference, the Networked Economy Conference Online.
