CMP Media's Software Development Events Group announced today the lineup for the third annual UML World Conference, to be held June 11-14 at the Crowne Plaza Manhattan Hotel in New York City. UML is the industry-standard "blueprint language," allowing software developers and managers to design a solid software system and business model with one consistent language. Following on the success of last year's UML World Conference, UML World 2001 will offer an expanded program of tutorials, courses and special events.

Keynotes

The conference features several exciting keynote presentations from the following modeling visionaries:

-- Dr. Ivar Jacobson, one of the original three creators of UML, will present four marco trends in software development. This talk will explore the outer limits of UML, RUP and the tools built on them.

-- Kent Beck, author of The Smalltalk Best Practice Patterns, Extreme Programming Explained, will discuss Extreme Programming as the new paradigm and suggest a set of best practices to turn software development into a dynamic conversation between business and technology.

-- Doug Rosenberg, founder and president of Iconix Software Engineering, Inc., will present "Alice in Use Case Land," a lighthearted look at a few of the bewildering array of use case styles and suggestions for keeping things simple and straightforward.

Classes and Tutorials

UML World 2001 offers four full days of training taught by the leading minds in the UML industry. The week begins with nine targeted full and half day tutorials on topics ranging from UML Distilled to Extreme Programming. The conference continues with over 50 classes in the following tracks:

  -- Architecture
  -- Project Management
  -- Software Process
  -- Patterns
  -- UML

  Expanded Expo Floor

Attendees can move from the classroom to this year's expanded expo floor to test the latest modeling tools and technologies from leading vendors. Participating companies include Aonix, Blueprint Technologies, Canyon Blue, Embarcadero Technologies, Iconix, Popkin, Rational Software, Secant Technologies, Software Engineering Inc., Sybase and Telelogic. Open to all attendees, the Expo Floor Party will give both attendees and exhibitors the chance to network and enjoy complimentary food and drinks.

"UML World 2001 really showcases the growth of this important technology. We have more than 65% completely new educational sessions, great keynotes from the likes of Kent Beck and Ivar Jacobson and an exciting display of UML tools from the leading vendors. The focus of UML World is on software design, architecture and process. The purpose is to help development teams be more successful. UML World is the 'can't miss' event for software modeling professionals," said Mike Gottlieb, Show Director.
