CMP Media's Software Development Media Group today announced the launch of a special edition of BYTE magazine.

On hiatus since July 1998, this special issue of BYTE, slated for publication in March 2002 with a paid, worldwide distribution of over 140,000, is being heralded as a return to BYTE at its best -- broad technical subject matter examined in great depth. The issue will deliver hard hitting, objective analysis of emerging computing standards, architectures, and enabling technologies that are shaping the next generation of applications, computing platforms, and communication devices.

Created by the same CMP Media Software Development Media Group publishing team that also produces Dr. Dobb's Journal, SYS Admin, and other publications, the Spring 2002 issue of BYTE provides business and technology professionals a field-guide to emerging trends and immediate advances in ground-breaking areas such as distributed computing, grid computing, and web services.

"BYTE was instrumental in giving the microcomputer legitimacy in the business environment, and almost single-handedly ushered in a new genre of technical publications," said Tim Trickett, Publishing Director, "and more than three years after the last print edition was published, technical professionals still ask when BYTE will be back. Given the strategic role that technology plays in business, we feel that now is the time."

Group Editorial Director Jonathan Erickson added, "As a former BYTE editor and reader, I'm delighted to have a role in bringing back to readers the most storied magazine in the technical press. In addition to longtime BYTE columnists, the issue will include some of the world's leading experts in topics such as grid computing, cluster computing, and emerging protocols and languages for distributed computing."

This special Spring 2002 issue of BYTE will have stand-alone distribution to the paid subscription files of Dr. Dobb's Journal and SYS Admin, and have significant worldwide newsstand distribution, with an extremely high anticipated sell-through. Total worldwide circulation is expected to exceed 140,000.
