CMP Media LLC (NASDAQ: UNEWY) today announced that the first issue of New Architect magazine (March 2002) will debut at the CTIA Wireless conference in Orlando on March 20, 2002 and at Internet World 2002 in Los Angeles on April 22, 2002. New Architect is a monthly print publication that serves technology leaders who are architecting their organizations' e-business foundations. The publication is an evolution of CMP Media's popular Web Techniques magazine.

Advertisers respond to editorial and circulation changes

New Architect's evolving editorial direction has received a great deal of praise from vendors in the Internet and Information Technology industries. Bob Melk, publisher of New Architect and group director of CMP Media's New Architect Media Group, reports that, "Since New Architect announced the evolution of its editorial direction and more stringent circulation qualifications in November 2001, several leading technology companies have responded favorably. In fact, many new advertisers -- including Oracle, Ipswitch, Covalent, IBM IntelliStation and Computer Associates-have purchased ad pages to reach New Architect's highly targeted and rigorously qualified readership."

John Magee, Oracle's senior director of product marketing, says, "I believe that New Architect has insightfully identified the people who influence key Internet and IT infrastructure decisions within an organization. The new architects are not traditional IT managers and they are not developers. They represent a new level of Internet strategists tasked with making decisions that affect the infrastructure of an entire enterprise."

"We believe that new architects serve strategic roles in every organization," adds JP Frenza, eBassador at IBM. "It's clear that New Architect understands the needs of these technology leaders and has developed a publication to help them understand and navigate shifting trends in the integration of Internet, IT and business practices."

New guest editorial in debut issue

The premiere issue of New Architect will feature a guest editorial by John Perry Barlow, co-founder and vice chairman of the Electronic Frontier Foundation. Since May 1998, Barlow has been a Fellow at Harvard Law School's Berkman Center for Internet and Society, following his term as a Fellow with the Institute of Politics at Harvard's John F. Kennedy School of Government. In his New Architect editorial, Barlow explores the problems with closed standards and fee-for-content systems, and explains how readers need to be more involved in the Internet legislation process.

New Architect's direction and evolution reflect eight months of research that proved that organizations are integrating Internet technologies with core business systems. This fundamental shift away from stand-alone Internet initiatives has changed the needs of the readership. "We realize that Internet strategists don't have the time to read about technologies that may 'revolutionize' the industry," notes Amit Asaravala, editor in chief of New Architect and editorial director of the New Architect Media Group. "Our readers are now charged with decisions that could potentially make or break the business. They are grappling with merging their companies' core IT systems with Internet and emerging technologies. We provide them with technically sophisticated information about products and services to help them make the critical decisions for this process."

The New Architect web site, http://www.newarchitectmag.com/ , and monthly email newsletter, "This Month at NewArchitectmag.com," will debut with the magazine. Both contain full articles and article summaries, links to online resources, updates on current events, and exclusive content not found in New Architect magazine including New Architect research offerings and an online recruiting service.
