The International Game Developers Association (IGDA) has released the Online Games white paper, available for download at no charge at http://www.igda.org/online/online_whitepaper.php .

Industry analysts are predicting online game revenues will be in the billions by 2007. The Online Games white paper helps developers and publishers take full advantage of this market and meet its challenges by providing market statistics, business model descriptions, technology summaries, publisher listings, case studies of online games and reference resources.

"With feedback from top developers and publishers, including Sony and EA, the Online Games white paper is an invaluable global resource for online game development," states Alex Jarett, IGDA Online Games Committee chairman. "Developers will read about the tremendous growth of publishers who are actively online, and see how the sector is moving across multiple platforms such as the PC, web, and consoles to wireless and interactive television."

Responding to a void of information, the IGDA tasked the Online Games Committee to address the needs of game developers concerning online games, which resulted in the white paper. The committee was led by the following members:

  -- Elonka Dunin, Simutronics Corporation
  -- Jon Estanislao, Activision, Inc.
-- Alex Jarett, BAP Games, LLC
-- Jennifer MacLean, Comcast Online Communications
-- Brian Robbins, Worlds Apart Productions
  -- David Rohrl, EA Online
  -- Jeferson Valadares, Jynx Playware
  -- John Welch, AtomShockwave Corp.

"The IGDA is committed to fostering the creativity of game development and commissioned this report to help game developers become more educated on the subject," said Jason Della Rocca, Program Director of the IGDA. "The resulting Online Games white paper is a comprehensive report on the current issues, challenges, and opportunities facing online game development."
