CMP Media's EE Times announced the launch of the Digital TV DesignLine Web site (www.DigitalTVDesignLine.com). This completely new site is targeted at design engineers and engineering managers involved in the development of set-top boxes (STBs), TVs, cable/satellite infrastructure, and other systems used in the rollout of digital TV networks to end users.

"These are exciting times for digital TV since it affects all design aspects of consumer electronics products from new HDTV displays, HD satellite systems, HD PVRs, and even the new blue laser DVD players/recorders coming in 2006," said Dennis P. Barker, site editor for Digital TV DesignLine. "Digital TV DesignLine has been created to keep designers and engineers current and up-to-date with the trends and developments in these exciting product areas and also keep developments in digital rights managements and VoIP clearly in focus."

Digital TV DesignLine is the online design resource that delivers practical, how-to design information, technical and standards-related resources, new product announcements and reviews, expert advice and topical forums on:

  -- Set-Top Boxes
  -- Voice/Data Networking
  -- Display Architecture
  -- HD Recording
  -- Digital Rights Management

The site is dedicated to helping engineers accelerate the development of digital television technology and equipment. The design of the site supports this goal by offering a broad range of topics such as the implementation of new codec schemes for set-top boxes or debating the move to all internet protocol (IP) architectures.

Site Editor Dennis P. Barker is a working consumer electronics journalist based in Ossining, NY, who specializes in writing about and evaluating audio, video, home theater and HDTV products. Dennis spent 12 years working on Consumer Reports magazine reporting on all types of products. He created its innovative FeatureFinder buyers' guide series that covered 12 product categories specializing in consumer electronics. He was also responsible for the annual March issue of Guide to Gear, and the consumer electronics portions of the Annual Buyers Guide issue published each December. As the former consumer electronics editor for Microsoft's Sidewalk.com, he was responsible for its Buyers Guides and editorial, and acted as the resident electronics expert. Over the years, he also penned several articles and reviews, and created various buyers guides for numerous publications and online Web sites such as DesignTechnica.com, Home Theater, Popular Mechanics, AV Interiors, and HDTV ETC. Dennis holds a Masters Degree in Market Research from The New School in New York City, and a Bachelor's Degree in Anthropology from Queens College of CCNY.

Digital TV DesignLine is CMP Media's seventh in a series of vertically micro-segmented Web sites for design engineers involved in designing electronic systems. CMP's Electronics Group has a high degree of expertise in the digital TV design area. In addition to Dennis Barker's broad knowledge of the industry, Junko Yoshida, Loring Wirbel, and Cliff Roth are well-known editors in this space. In addition, the site will have access to a deep library of how-to technical articles, product information, and news content through EE Times Online, PlanetAnalog.com, Embedded.com, and the Video Imaging DesignLine.
