Despite an increased prevalence of psychiatric conditions and a greater number of drugs available to treat them, mental health resources remain scarce in many parts of the world. For today's psychiatry professionals, mental health issues are a global concern. In response, Psychiatric Times magazine will publish Psychiatric Times: Global Watch, a bonus mid-October issue devoted exclusively to the global state of psychiatry.

Psychiatric Times: Global Watch takes an in-depth look at factors that influence psychiatry practice around the world. Subscribers will get a global perspective on depression, child psychiatry, psychotropic medications and the role of human rights abuses in the development of psychiatric conditions. The special issue will also feature a panel discussion with psychiatric experts from international locations.

"We're very excited to extend our coverage to global issues," said Psychiatric Times Editorial Director Christine Potvin. "Depression, alcoholism, schizophrenia and obsessive compulsive disorder are among the leading causes of disability worldwide, but there is a wide disparity in the availability of mental health care in different countries. This coverage underscores the need for our subscribers to develop a greater awareness of the challenges that face their colleagues around the globe."

Psychiatric Times: Global Watch will reach Psychiatric Times' circulation of 39,587 patient-care psychiatrists in October. Additional copies of the print edition will be distributed at the U.S. Psychiatric & Mental Health Congress in November. A complete online edition will be available at www.psychiatrictimes.com.
