Dan Schwartz, Publishing Director of CMP Media Inc.'s HomePC magazine, has been named President of WebConnect, a leading provider of Internet media placement services. Dick O'Hare, Associate Publisher at HomePC, was promoted to Publisher at the magazine.

CMP Media became a joint-venture partner in WebConnect last year, shortly after outsourcing its publication list management to Worldata. In discussing Schwartz's move to WebConnect, which provides a targeted and flexible network for advertisers who want to make an impact on the Internet, Managing Partner Roy Schwedelson said, "As a 17-year CMP veteran, Dan brings with him an intimate knowledge of the needs of high-tech advertisers who increasingly are seeking the same kind of return on investment from their Internet advertising as they expect from their print and direct-mail investments."

With all WebConnect sales and marketing functions reporting directly to him, Schwartz will be working with Schwedelson to enhance Internet advertising performance for WebConnect's customers. The company offers advertisers access to the WebConnect network of more than 1,000 exclusive member sites, each selected for its demographics and its volume in both impressions and click- throughs, and to custom-designed networks created to address customer needs.

"Whether a buy takes advantage of the WebConnect network exclusively or extends outside the network, customers benefit from our detailed monitoring and reporting systems," Schwedelson said. "With Dan on board we'll be looking for new ways to help advertisers break through Internet noise to maximize the efficiency and effectiveness of their online ad dollars while reaching precisely their target audiences."

Schwartz joined CMP in 1979 to work on Electronic Buyers' News and returned to the publication in 1987 after a six-year stint at CMP's Computer Reseller News, where he was Eastern Regional Manager. In three years he rose from National Sales Manager to Publisher at Electronic Buyers' News. Schwartz was named Publisher of HomePC at its launch in 1994, and in 1996 was promoted to Publishing Director. He will report to Schwedelson.

O'Hare Takes Over Top Post at HomePC Magazine

O'Hare, who takes over as Publisher of HomePC, was promoted from Associate Publisher, a title he received earlier this year. O'Hare began his career at CMP in 1990 in the company's OEM Group where he came on board as District Sales Manager for EE Times. He expanded his knowledge of the enterprise market as District Manager for Interactive Age before being named Eastern Regional Manager of WINDOWS Magazine in 1995. In June 1996, O'Hare became National Sales Manager for HomePC, a title he held until being promoted to Associate Publisher.

"In his capacity as National Sales Manager and Associate Publisher, Dick has done a tremendous job furthering the position of HomePC among advertisers and readers alike," said Schwartz.
