Museums & Universities Supporting Educational Enrichment, Inc. (MUSEE) announced today that MUSEE Expo (http://www.museeexpo.org/), the new K-12 educational technology exhibition and conference will feature live and fully interactive virtual field trips at some of the country's most prestigious museums. Using sophisticated PictureTel Videoconferencing, classroom and museum educators will be shown the power of distance learning and ways to integrate these applications in their lesson plans. MUSEE Expo will be held November 5-7, 2000, at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

MUSEE Expo -- which serves both classroom and museum educators who use technology in the learning process -- will feature more than 150 conference classes and 125 exhibitors. This first-ever event and conference is a unique collaboration MUSEE, a not-for-profit organization based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and CMP Media Inc.'s TECHNOLOGY & LEARNING magazine.

Museums nationwide have developed extensive curricula that span many different subject areas and can be fully integrated into the K-12 classroom. MUSEE Expo will enable educators to see and hear directly from some of the nation's elite museum education directors about the cross-curriculum activities available. Museum educational programs such as language arts, science and technology, transportation, ancient and American history, space exploration, transportation and zoological studies will be showcased. Museums scheduled to participate include:

-- National Museum of African Art, Washington, D.C.
-- Cape May County Park and Zoo, Cape May Court House, NJ
-- Cold Springs Historic Village, Cape May, NJ
-- Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts, Cape May, NJ
-- Old Bedford Village, Bedford, PA
-- Independence National Historical Park, Philadelphia, PA
-- Pennsylvania Anthracite Heritage Museum, Scranton, PA
-- Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania, Strasburg, PA
  -- Johnson Space Center, TX
-- PBS Affiliate WVAI TV/FM, Scranton, PA

"These interactive field trips provide an important opportunity for both teachers and museum educators to experience the limitless possibilities for extending the reach of their resources," said Shelly Neilsen, conference manager, MUSEE Expo. "The use of this kind of technology immediately establishes a unique educational partnership between schools and museums."

To further support the importance of distance learning in the K-12 classroom, MUSEE Expo will feature a whole series of videoconferencing seminars that will focus directly on the proven benefits of education via electronic media. "Effective Presentations via Videoconferencing," an interactive seminar directed to teachers or presenters, covers several important elements of conducting a distance learning class with impact. "Distance Learning via Videoconferencing: Proven Success Stories" will feature a live in-session distance learning class. Participants will talk directly with educators and students whose educational career was advanced by videoconferencing technologies.

MUSEE Expo is sponsored by International Cultural Organization Network, Inc. (ICON) and MuseumNetwork.com and is produced by the same TECHNOLOGY & LEARNING professionals who manage SchoolTech Exposition & Conference in New York and Chicago (http://www.schooltechexpo.com/). Up to 3,000 K-12 educators are expected to attend MUSEE Expo, including technology coordinators and directors, principals, superintendents, curriculum directors, teachers and librarians from around the nation, plus museum curators, educators and administrators from among the 10,000 museums in the United States.

MUSEE Expo was created by MUSEE, a not-for-profit organization, to enhance the use of museums' educational resources, advance the use of technology in the classroom, and foster public/private partnerships. MUSEE works with cultural institutions around the world to provide services to museums, schools, and the general public. MUSEE also created a Web site (http://www.musee-online.org/) which is the world's most comprehensive museum Web site directory. It helps teachers and students gain a better understanding of resources museums have available.
