First NetGuide Awards Declares `Power to the People'; NetGuide Calls on Internet Users to Vote for their Favorite Sites and Chat About their Picks

The first NetGuide Awards' People's Choice voting is officially open. Web surfers can log on to http://www.netguide.com/awards to vote in nine different People's Choice categories. Votes will be accepted through 11:59 p.m. PT Friday, February 21. The NetGuide Awards, sponsored by Legacy Software, will honor the most innovative and interesting Internet products and Web sites in the world. The winners will be announced at the awards show on March 13, 1997 at the El Rey Theater in Los Angeles. Voters can debate their choices on the NetGuide Live site via Legacy's Passport2 Participate Chat Software.

The nine People's Choice categories include: Best Educational Site; Best Children's Site; Best Gaming Site; Most Entertaining Site; Site with Greatest Social Impact; Best Internet Service Provider; Best Commercial Online Service; Best Live Event Online; Best Personal Site.

Nominations in 28 categories were submitted to the site January 1 - 31. Nineteen will be judged by a diverse panel of soon-to-be announced judges. At the closing of nominations, the site had received nearly 4,000 individual entries. Chats about this year's nominees can be conducted on the NetGuide Live site or on America Online (keyword: NetGuide).

"Given the interactive nature of the Internet, we wanted to involve the entire community in the selection process," said Beth Haggerty, publishing director, CMP's Internet Media Group, which includes NetGuide Magazine and NetGuide Live. "The mix of professional and popular judging should accurately reflect the best work in the Internet arena."
