CMP Media's Network Computing today announced its annual Well-Connected Award winners that honor outstanding technology products and services representing the very best the technology industry has to offer. The winners are chosen by Network Computing's technology editors from products that have been tested and evaluated in the Network Computing labs.

Network Computing's IT analysts work at length during the course of the year to research and test products and services in various technology areas -- they've kicked the tires, taken the test drives and done the crash tests. To be considered for the Well-Connected Awards products and services are subjected to a hands-on testing process, which is a unique distinction that separates the Well-Connected Awards from other award programs.

From the pool of 48 winners, one product rose above all others, Forum Systems' Forum XWall, which was awarded the Most Outstanding Product of the Year.

"The hype around Web services outpaced that of just about every technology we covered this year. SOA, XML, AJAX and Web 2.0 have not only created new ways for businesses to work together, but also new avenues for intruders to gain access to your data and systems," said Mike Lee, editor of Network Computing. "Forum XWall is one of the few SOA security products that fights unnecessary complexity. It lets admins easily perform a high-level configuration to gain some basic protection. Forum XWall starts at a relatively low price--around $20,000--and can be expanded as your SOA grows. Better yet, this product plays well with others and integrates easily with ID management and antivirus products. It represents what being Well-Connected is all about."

The categories in the 12th Annual Well-Connected Awards fall into eight information technology markets: application infrastructure, enterprise applications, messaging and collaboration, network and systems management, network infrastructure, security, storage and server as well as wireless. A complete list of winners, products and categories will be highlighted in the May 1 issue of Network Computing and on the Web site http://www.networkcomputing.com/wellconnected.

"The Well-Connected Awards are the only accolades chosen by technology experts based on real-world product testing and evaluations producing real- world results," said Art Wittmann, editor-in-chief of Network Computing. "We view all products, technologies and services from the same perspective as our readers and peers. All 48 winners are truly the best and brightest."
