CMP's CommunicationsWeek announced it will be the exclusive networking media sponsor of the 1997, 1998 and 1999 Global Information Infrastructure (GII) Awards, formerly the National Information Infrastructure Awards.

The GII Awards, now in its third year, are the only international awards program designed to recognize excellence and innovation in the use of the information highway. The Awards program is a non-partisan, private-sector initiative made possible through a collaborative relationship with private- and public-sector leaders. The mission of the program is to help the global community realize the potential of a networked society by identifying examples of excellence and helping others learn from those examples.

The GII Awards were created by Access Media, Inc., based in Santa Monica, Calif. Information about the program is available on the World Wide Web at http://www.gii-awards.com/.

The newspaper features Web Commerce, a biweekly section that provides in-depth features and analysis of electronic commerce products, technologies and case studies. Telepath, a monthly supplement to CommunicationsWeek, is directed to the innovators behind converging networks.
