CMP Media today announced a new online destination for developers of mobile applications -- Mobilized Software.com. The online community is part of Intel's Mobilized Software Initiative to help software developers create better mobile applications. Applications designed following mobilized software guidelines provide a better experience for mobile users, whether they are connected to a network or not. Mobilized Software.com will be tailored to the information needs of developers, IT and solutions providers who create the community of builders, users and sellers of mobile software.

"Today's workforce is increasingly mobile and needs solutions that are intelligent enough to work when and where the user needs them. This turning point is an opportunity for the mobile software community but they need support to seize it," said Joe Braue, Vice President of CMP Media's Custom Integrated Media Solutions. "Building on content from CMP's leadership brands in software development, enterprise IT and solutions provider markets, including Dr. Dobb's Journal, InformationWeek and CRN, and augmented by content from industry leaders such as Intel, enables us to create a community resource for the entire mobile industry."

Noted mobile experts and journalists will lead Mobilized Software.com's editorial, including Tim Kientzle, Editor-in-Chief, Jim Geier, Enterprise IT Editor, and Jennifer Bosavage, Solutions Provider Editor. Kientzle, a software architect, was Technical Editor at Dr. Dobbs. Geier, a wireless LAN consultant, has authored several books, including Wireless LANs and Wireless Networking Handbook. Bosavage was Executive Editor at VARBusiness.

"The success of Intel® Centrino™ Mobile technology and wireless connectivity have highlighted the need for architecting software to complement the benefits of mobility," said Chris Thomas, Chief Strategist, Solutions Marketing Development Group, Intel. "The strength of industry support for Mobilized Software.com, with 25 sponsors at launch, including Microsoft and SAP, clearly demonstrates the importance of designing mobile software to shape the future of computing."

From office productivity to enterprise applications, software will become mobilized, and Microsoft and SAP will showcase their mobility thought leadership through Mobilized Software.com. Microsoft is committed to delivering integrated innovation through Windows Mobile solutions; enabling a rich customer experience while easily connecting customers to services and their information from smallest devices to the largest servers. Through mySAP™ Mobile Business, SAP extends its family of generic and cross-industry solutions to users anytime, anywhere. The ready-made solutions of mySAP Mobile Business are built upon an open standards-based platform, the SAP Mobile Infrastructure, which is a central component of the SAP NetWeaver™ integration and application platform. Microsoft and SAP's platinum-level sponsorship of Mobilized Software.com demonstrates the importance of mobile software to these two industry leaders.

Examples of features found in mobilized applications include online/offline functionality, enabling continuous work even when a network connection is disrupted, and intelligent connectivity, which enables roaming among wireless hotspots and provides the flexibility to access data and applications across laptops, desktops, handhelds and servers. Mobilized applications are also tuned to conserve power and extend battery life while maximizing performance. Each month, the Mobilized Software.com editors will tackle these key challenges of mobile software and others.

Mobilized Software.com, which is designed and produced by CMP Media in association with Intel and organizations such as Microsoft and SAP, will deliver practical resources for mobile applications strategy, design and development. The online community will include powerful community-building resources, including monthly e-seminars, lively discussion forums, controversial blogs and insightful e-mail newsletters. Through an innovative Mobilized Update online/offline capability, readers can select and automatically download content of their choosing, enabling them to read articles even while not connected.
