CMP Media today announced the names of eight exceptional industry gurus chosen to address thousands of software development professionals at the upcoming Software Development Conference & Expo occurring April 8-12 in San Jose.

SD 2001, now in its 14th year, is also offering Web Services World, a special concurrent conference dedicated to the education and discussion of web services and supporting XML-based technologies and standards. Both events will offer attendees the opportunity to hear from the leading luminaries of software development and education.   This year's dynamic keynote lineup includes:

  -- Executive Director of Linux International, Jon "maddog" Hall, will
     discuss Linux and how this singular operating system is taking the
     industry by storm.  Hall is the first keynote presenting on Sunday,
     April 8, at 12:00 p.m.
  -- Simon Phipps, chief software evangelist at Sun Microsystems, will
     discuss the future direction of computers and the internet, as well as
     the mechanisms of community and standards that will be needed to make
     the most of this future direction.  Phipps is presenting Tuesday,
     April 10, at 9:15 a.m.
  -- One of the original developers of the Unified Modeling Language (UML),
     Grady Booch will talk about Web development, specifically, what can be
     done to achieve a frictionless surface for development.  Booch is
     speaking at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 10.
