CMP Media's Network Magazine announces the release of its annual North American Carrier survey. The results will appear its August issue in an article titled "North American Carrier Survey: Tough Enough?" The research is one of three exclusive ISP and carrier studies published by the magazine each year. More than 4,000 Network Magazine readers ranked over 12 leading carriers on key categories including leased line, frame relay, ATM service and private IP.

Top honors to AT&T, Cable and Wireless and BellSouth

The most popular services chosen by network managers in this year's survey were leased lines and frame relay. In leased lines, AT&T ranked #1 overall followed by BellSouth and Cable and Wireless, who tied for second. BellSouth ranked #1 in frame relay with a close second awarded to AT&T.

Survey concludes customer service is key in delivering application service

The trends spotted in this year's survey include a positive relationship between customer service and the size of accounts; a decline in ATM as a corporate enterprise service; and difficulties cited with RBOCs. "It was interesting to note that even though there are market downturns, network managers are still allocating money to carrier services," said International Technology Editor David Greenfield, author of the August article.

"Network Magazine turns to its enterprise network readers who buy services to evaluate service providers and carriers," said Editor-in-Chief Steve Steinke. "These surveys provide feedback to ISPs and carriers as well as peer-to-peer information to enterprise networkers."

The ISPs & Carrier Surveys

Butterflies & Castles, Inc., an independent research firm, conducted the research for Network Magazine. Complete survey results showing reader experiences with ISPs & Carriers will be rolled out in a series of three articles: August's North American Carrier Survey, September's Global ISP Survey and January's Global Carrier Survey.
