TECHNOLOGY & LEARNING magazine, the number one publication in the market of education technology, announced today the Semi-Finalists for the 2000 TECHNOLOGY & LEARNING Teacher of the Year Awards program. The 13th Annual Awards program honors K-12 teachers who use technology to inspire students and enhance learning. Hewlett-Packard and NetSchools sponsor the awards program. The Learning Company is a contributing sponsor.

The Semi-Finalists, selected by a panel of distinguished judges coordinated by TECHNOLOGY & LEARNING, were chosen from schools across the country. From the semifinalists, four regional winners will be selected. One of the four Regional Winners will then be named the 2000 TECHNOLOGY & LEARNING Teacher of the Year, to be announced today, at an awards reception at the NSBA T + L Conference in Denver, Colorado.

"Each entrant in this year's Teacher of the Year program takes a unique approach to integrating technology in his or her school or classroom," said Susan McLester, newly named editor-in-chief, of TECHNOLOGY & LEARNING magazine. "They come from all parts of the country with distinct backgrounds, but they have one thing in common: a remarkable level of dedication to teaching and to their students."

The Learning Company will supply each State Winner with Carmen Sandiego's ThinkQuick Challenge and a KidPix Studio Third Edition software. TECHNOLOGY & LEARNING will provide a one-year subscription to the publication, recognition in the December 2000 issue and a personalized award certificate.

In addition, Regional Winners will receive all of the above prizes plus two state-of-the-art Hewlett Packard multimedia computers (one for the educators' personal use and one for their school), attendance (including travel costs) at the NSBA T + L Conference, an invitation to serve on TECHNOLOGY & LEARNING's Editorial Advisory Board, coverage in a spotlight article in the December 2000 issue of the magazine and a choice of one software product from The Learning Company.

The National Teacher of the Year winner will receive all of the above plus the following products from The Learning Company: the complete NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC, Living Books Library, Stagecast Creator and The Complete CornerStone Reading Strand.
