CMP Media's "CRN," the newsweekly for builders of technology, yesterday hosted the Ultimate PC Awards Event at CMP's Tech Builder XChange Conference in Miami, FL. The event was sponsored by Everdream and AMD.

The 2001 Ultimate PC Awards recognize outstanding technology vendors in 17 product categories, including CD Drive, Display, Floppy Disk, Keyboard, Memory Modules, Motherboard, Mouse, Network Interface Card, Power Supply, Processor, SCSI HBA, Sound Card, Speaker System, System Cabinet, Thermal-Management Solutions and Video. The CRN Test Center rated their vendor partners on product criteria such as quality, functionality, performance and innovation.

Awards were presented to executives from the winning companies during the ceremony, hosted by Editor/Strategy of CRN Heather Clancy and the Director of CRN Labs John Yacono.

This year's Ultimate PC category winners are: 3COM Corp.; Adaptec Inc.; Advanced Micro Devices, Inc.; Altec Lansing; American Advanced Power Inc.; AquaView Products Inc.; Compro Technology Inc.; CoolerMaster; Creative Labs, Inc.; EPoX International Inc.; Hewlett Packard Co.; Kingston Technology Company, Inc.; Logitech; Mitsumi Electronics Corp.; nVIDIA Corp.; Samsung Electronics; Seagate Technology, Inc. and WinoTek.

"Every time I build a new Ultimate PC, I'm amazed at the level of innovation vendors pour into the components, and this demo's participants were certainly no exception," said Yacono. "A seemingly inexhaustible resource of creativity, I really admire the engineers pushing the technology barrier to make the channel swell with compelling products," he added.

"Once again, entrants presented us with an embarrassment of technical riches. Most of the products were worthy of serious consideration, making the judging as difficult as it was enjoyable. In the long run we definitely ended up with the most feature-rich PC to date. My thanks and respect go out to both the winners and participants," Yacono concluded.
