CMP Media's VARBusiness magazine, the premier source of strategic technology and business direction for the architects of the digital economy, yesterday hosted the 16th Annual Report Card Awards Event at CMP's Breakaway XChange Conference in Orlando, Florida. The event was sponsored by Avaya, FrontRange, Lexmark, Novell, PTC, Qwest and Seagate.

The 2001 VARBusiness Annual Report Card Awards recognize the outstanding partner programs in 15 product categories, including desktops, midrange servers, storage management software, Internet application server software and networking hardware. Solution providers rated their vendor partners on product criteria such as quality and functionality, along with relationship criteria like revenue and profit potential, pre-sales support and post-sales support/service, channel management, administration of VAR program and ease of doing business. The research was conducted by Bernett Research, an independent research firm located in Boston, Massachusetts.

Awards were presented to executives from the winning companies during the ceremony, hosted by CMP Vice President/VARBusiness Editorial Director Robert C. DeMarzo, and VARBusiness Publisher Michael R. Uliss. The night's entertainment was provided by comedian Jeff Foxworthy, star of the HBO Special "Totally Committed."

This year's Annual Report Card category winners included Sun Microsystems, Compaq Computer Corp., IBM Corp., Cisco Systems Corp., Novell Inc., Microsoft Inc., Veritas Software Corp., Tivoli Systems Inc., Macromedia Inc., Seagate Technology, ViewSonic Corp. and WorldCom Inc.

In order to compile this year's list of Report Card winners, VARBusiness surveyed more than 5,000 systems integrators, IT consulting organizations, value-added resellers (VARs), solution providers and software developers/ISVs about their relationships in more than 70 programs maintained by the leading technology vendors.

"The overwhelming success of the 2001 ARC event attests to the vitality of the solution provider community. As today's leading IT manufacturers re-evaluate their strategies, there is an ever-growing appreciation of the importance of VAR/vendor relationships and the crucial role these channel partnerships play in the future success of their business." Said Robert C. DeMarzo, CMP Vice President/VARBusiness Editorial Director.
