CMP Media Inc., wholly-owned by United News and Media PLC (NASDAQ: UNEWY), today announced the launch of M-Business magazine, the first business publication exclusively covering the mobile economy. The magazine, premiering in October, is the latest strategic launch from CMP Media Inc. (CMP), publisher of industry-leading magazines such as InformationWeek and CRN. M-Business is written for business and technology executives leading their organizations into the mobile age.

According to M-Business publisher, Eric Bergman, the magazine will provide penetrating, analytical coverage of the trends, business models, technologies, policies, and players defining the mobile business landscape -- a $2.4 billion market which IDC projects will grow to $17.8 billion by 2004.

"Mobile is the next growth segment in technology," said Gary Marshall, President and CEO of CMP. "Among our millions of subscribers, many are now developing mobile business initiatives and are exploring the products and services that will allow them to implement these corporate strategies. M-Business will deliver the information and resources they need."

The magazine will be published monthly with a qualified circulation of 125,000. The M-Business brand will include a Web portal, MBizCentral.com, launching this fall, and a large-scale trade show scheduled for May 2001.

The Mobile Market

According to the E-Business Unit (EBU) of Cap Gemini America and Corechange, Inc., 78% of the U.S. Internet population will use wireless data applications by 2001, with market growth initially being driven by corporate initiatives rather than consumer demand.

"Until now there has been no forum dedicated to bringing together m-business pioneers and the vendors that serve them," said Manny Sawit, Group Director of CMP's Internet & Mobile Group, which is driving the launch. "Our goal with M-Business is to provide that kind of forum; to get business decision makers and technology vendors on the same page and set the pace for innovation and evolution in this rapidly emerging mobile marketplace."
