CMP Media, Inc. today announced the launch of a new quarterly print and online publication for Web video professionals titled DV Web Video. Published by the CMP DV (Digital Video) Group, DV Web Video will provide technology analyses, in-depth reviews, and essential how-to columns to help digital professionals distribute compelling content over the Web.

The circulation of the print version of DV Web Video will be 40,000 professionals involved in producing or delivering Web video content. The premiere issue will mail in early April and will be distributed at the annual National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) convention, April 10-13, 2000, in Las Vegas, NV. The online counterpart to DV Web Video will reside on the highly trafficked http://www.dv.com/ site and feature breaking news in the Web video market.

"Video has become a key part of a compelling Web experience, but distributing video on the Web requires expertise that the average video or Web professional does not have," explains Scott Gentry, CMP DV Group director. "Currently those who are developing this expertise must glean information from tool vendors and other nonindependent sources. DV Web Video fulfills an enormous need for objective, practical information on how to deliver video to a Web-based audience," Gentry adds.

"As more and more traditional video tool vendors are recasting themselves as dot-com companies, DV Web Video will offer in-depth analysis of important industry developments," says Dominic Milano, CMP DV Group editorial director. "In addition, each issue of DV Web Video will offer a comprehensive survey of the tools and technologies being employed to produce video content for the Web," adds Milano.

Featuring Web sites that push the streaming media envelope, the Case Studies section will examine issues relevant to developers. These issues include server implementation and maintenance issues, scaling strategies, Webcast production techniques, database connectivity and user profiling and personalization techniques, information design strategies, and business models.

The Technology section of the publication will include primers on each of the major streaming media formats as well as advanced how-to pieces on content acquisition and delivery techniques. Interviews with industry pundits will round out the publication's in-depth coverage by providing glimpses of the future and commentary on the present.

DV Web Video columns include "Move It," focused on Web-based animation techniques; "Cut It," offering strategies for editing Web-compression-friendly video; "Quick Tips," how-to information related specifically to Apple's QuickTime streaming video format; "Real Tips," how-to information covering RealNetworks' line of streaming technologies; and "Bitstream," a section devoted to the business side of rich media content production and delivery.

Consisting of DV.com, DV magazine, DV Web Video magazine, DV Expo, and Web Video Expo, the CMP DV Group serves professionals involved in digital video and Web video production, post-production, and delivery. Each component of the CMP DV Group helps these professionals select the best tools for their projects and use those tools most effectively. For more information, visit http://www.dv.com/.
