"InformationWeek" today announced the launch of the InformationWeek Executive Boot Camp, a series of intensive professional education courses targeted to CIOs, senior IT executives, and other business leaders.

The first two InformationWeek Executive Boot Camps, developed in association with Stanford Professional Education and S&S World Ventures, are designed to infuse IT executives with strategic insight into a broad range of key disciplines including finance, law, marketing, human resources, globalization, strategy development, leadership and business creativity, among others.

"Too often, IT executives are forced to assimilate the bare-bones essentials of a broad set of business disciplines," said Scott Dinsdale, Senior VP, CIO and CTO of BMG Entertainment and Dean of the Executive Boot Camp program. "InformationWeek Executive Boot Camp helps IT executives dig deeper, enveloping delegates in a high-touch environment of in-depth, integrated business learning."

Sixty CIOs and top-tier IT executives will participate in an intensive week of study and address real-world, real-time case studies. Course segments will be led by world-class educators and practitioners such as Watts Wacker (First Matter), Marshall Fisher (Wharton School of Business), and Jim O'Toole (USC).

"InformationWeek Executive Boot Camp is the seminal career experience for IT executives who seek to rise above the pack," said Charles Pelton, editor-in-chief, events, InformationWeek. "InformationWeek is taking the initiative to help IT executives become business leaders."

Stanford's Professor Tom Kosnik serves as faculty advisor, and BMG Entertainment's Dinsdale serves as dean. Participants will receive Certificates of Completion from InformationWeek and Stanford Professional Education.

The first two InformationWeek Executive Boot Camps are scheduled for November 7 to 12, 1999 at the Doral Arrowwood, Westchester, New York, and March 5 to 10, 2000 in Northern California. InformationWeek will launch additional InformationWeek Executive Boot Camps in 2000.

"IT education is about more than technology underpinnings," said Kosnik. "An integrated educational approach is the most effective solution to the IT labor shortage and the impact that it has on our economy."

InformationWeek Executive Boot Camp is another initiative of the InformationWeek Education Continuum -- the umbrella philosophy that promotes, advocates and encourages IT education. Through a series of initiatives, the InformationWeek Education Continuum encourages students, teachers and professionals to explore and enhance their IT careers. InformationWeek also produces the InformationWeek Conference and InformationWeek Forums -- high-level, interactive, professional development events for IT executives and staffers. InformationWeek is launching an Adopt-a-School program underwritten by local corporations that help secondary and post-secondary schools use InformationWeek Magazine and InformationWeek Online as courseware during the school year.
