CMP Media's Network Computing took home top honors for Best Trade Magazine in the Science and Technology category at Folio's 11th annual Editorial Excellence Awards Ceremony.

More than 400 entries for the competition were submitted where a panel of 35 judges narrowed the list down to two finalists per category. The criteria was unique in that entrants were held up to standards set by their own publications chief editors and not against one another. Each entry was judged on how well it articulated and adhered to its editorial mission. Winners were determined by comparing the judges' evaluations of how each title fulfills its mission, the quality of its content and its overall design and production.

"In June 1999, Network Computing introduced a top-to-bottom redesign that boldly declared a new era for the magazine, and a renewed commitment to its readers," said Fritz Nelson, publisher of Network Computing. "Our goal was to give our audience a look not only more visually pleasing but more in tune with the way they use the content of the magazine. Ultimately, we aimed to sharpen the magazine's focus -- helping readers decide what products, technologies and services to buy, when and where to buy them -- and save them time in the process. This award signifies that our mission to implement visionary, dynamic leadership both in the networking category and also moving towards the larger, business strategist target, is definitely working."

The Editorial Excellence Awards ceremony took place on November 1 at the New York Hilton, in conjunction with the Folio:Show, the magazine industry's premier educational, networking and career-building event, named for its magazine, Folio. This was the first time Network Computing had been nominated for this award. It was a finalist with LC/GC North America.
