NEW YORK, Nov. 20, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- All great technology starts in a lab.
What is now called the Internet, software-defined networking (SDN), and networking device interoperability, all started as research projects in laboratories dedicated to pushing the boundaries of science and technology.
While some labs, such as Los Alamos National Lab and the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), focus on areas like military and nuclear technology, others, including CERN, look to increase humanity's understanding of physics.
With this in mind, Networking Computing and author Crystal Bedell created a list of the world's 11 top research labs for science and technology research. The list highlights the various achievements of these facilities, as well as the men and women who work for these institutions.
In addition to stalwarts such as Los Alamos and CERN, Network Computing and Bedell have included the Indiana Center for Network Translational Research and Education (InCNTRE) at Indiana University, which is working on several projects related to computer networking such as the adoption of OpenFlow and SDN technologies.
The complete list can be found on Network Computing.
As always, Network Computing wants to hear from its readers. Are there other interesting research and facilities out there that more people should know about? Share them in the comments section of the site.
