May 19, 2014

SAN FRANCISCO, May 19, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- UBM Tech, which serves design engineers and the electronics industry with essential business and technical information, today announced the results of the 28th annual Distributor Brand Preference Study.

UBM Tech Unveils the Results of the 2014 North America Distributor Brand Preference Study

UBM Tech brought its electronics brands -- EE Times, EBN, EDN, Embedded.com TechOnline, Planet Analog, DataSheets.com, DesignCon and EE Live! -- together to produce the comprehensive analysis of distributor brand equity.  The report measures three geographies – North America, Europe and Asia Pacific and this most recent study received the highest response in the reports history with more than 2,700 completed responses.

The purpose of the study is:

  • To analyze which distributors are used and preferred by engineering, supply chain / procurement and corporate professionals in five product categories: semiconductors, connectors & interconnects, passive components, electromechanical devices, and power;
  • To examine distributor brand metrics strength and reputation
  • To highlight the effects of job function on distribution brand preference

Patrick Mannion, VP Brand Director, UBM Tech said, "For nearly three decades our research is a key measurement tool for OEMs, CEMs, distributors and suppliers. OEMs rank distributors based on how well they help them achieve their operating goals and today it's vital for distributors to understand how they measure up in the face of their vendor partners and end user customers, how they are measured and where they rate compared to their competitors in order to strengthen revenues and plan for a strong year ahead."

The study is benchmark research on the distribution market where design engineers, technical managers, supply chain managers, purchasing and corporate managers across the OEM market have weighed in on distributor usage, distributor brand metrics, distributor brand recognition, distributor websites, information aggregators, information consumption, distributor brand summaries and distributor usage.

Earlier this month at EDS, UBM Tech received unprecedented attendance to the study by over 60 senior executives from manufacturers and distributors and 26 companies in the global electronics industry.  This annual study is a key measurement tool for OEMs, CEMs, distributors and suppliers.
