UBM Studios' Mobile Event Application Complements UBM Canon's Face-to-Face Event

Supported Co-Located BIOMEDevice, Design & Manufacturing New England and Electronics New England Shows April 25-26, 2012, in Boston, MA

May 8, 2012

CHICAGO, May 8, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- UBM Studios, the global leader in digital events, environments and communities, today announced its Mobile Event Application supported UBM Canon's co-located BIOMEDevice, Design & Manufacturing New England and Electronics New England event, which took place April 25-26, 2012 at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center in Boston, MA. The new application allows event producers to generate new revenue streams while connecting exhibitors, sponsors and attendees with relevant updates and content before, during and after an event.

eMarketer recently predicted that 81.3 million tablets will be sold in 2012 alone, up from 15.7 million in 2011.  Tablet devices will become a primary means for consumers to access nearly all forms of digital content in the very near future.

"On average we are seeing approximately 35 percent of attendees using the mobile event applications.  However, with strong marketing and by offering a web portal in advance of an event the number of app downloads can exceed event attendance," said Kate Spellman, President, UBM Studios.  "The mobile event applications enhance an attendees experience and enable sponsors and exhibitors to get their messages to the right audience."

The UBM Canon Boston 2012 mobile app and its accompanying desktop web portal provide event attendees, which include medical technology and electronics professionals, with a new way to experience the co-located event.  The desktop web portal offers the same information as the mobile app and allows users to plan attendance at the event and view content when they return to the office from their personal computer.

Attendees are able to plan their schedules by viewing and selecting the sessions and exhibitors they are interested in by creating a personal agenda communicating with other attendees and exhibitors and requesting appointments; view, pan, zoom and locate the sessions and exhibitors through interactive mapping; exhibitor, sponsors and other attendees can send messages to attendees who access the portal/mobile app; and spread news about the event and stay up-to-date on the latest information using Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and other social media.  Additionally, attendees are able to search by company name, speaker/attendee name, keyword searches and interests to find relevant content.

The native mobile app is available through iTunes for the iPhone and iPad and the Android Marketplace for Android phones and tablets. Users can also access the mobile app through the MobileWeb for the BlackBerry.

"The attendee experience was transformed with the UBM Canon Boston 2012 mobile app.  Not only were our attendees able to personalize their event experience in advance of the conference by identifying the sessions, exhibitors, speakers and other show features that interested them, but they were able to have all of this information with them throughout the event to ensure they got the most out of the conference.  By partnering with UBM Studios we were able to take our event to the next level.  The feedback we have received from our sponsors, exhibitors and attendees is very positive," said Amy Lindstrum, Director of Business Operations, Events, UBM Canon.

Additionally, the Mobile Event Application was utilized at the co-located AeroCon; ATX South; Design & Manufacturing South; Electronics South; Green Mfg Expo South; and SouthPack event, which took place May 2-3, 2012 in Charlotte, NC.

The Mobile Event Application will also be utilized at the following co-located UBM Canon events:
