Level 3 Pledges Support in "10,000 Jobs Challenge," Demonstrates Commitment to Help Veterans and Military Spouses Find Employment

Apr 2, 2012

BROOMFIELD, Colo., April 2, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Level 3 Communications, Inc. (NYSE: LVLT) today announced that it is joining the 10,000 Jobs Challenge with Milicruit, Military Officers Association (MOAA), DirectEmployers Association and businesses across the U.S. to help service members, veterans and military spouses find employment. Level 3's participation underscores the company's long-standing commitment to helping those who have served and defended our nation find rewarding careers as they transition into civilian life.

Level 3 is making a concerted effort to stand behind our nation's veterans by actively seeking out employment opportunities for them, within the company and with other companies. The company seeks to increase veteran hiring through partnering with transition assistance programs, veteran's employment organizations, and monthly recruitment outreach programs.

In addition to supporting the 10,000 Jobs Challenge, Level 3 is actively involved in recruiting events for veterans where company representatives help connect current and former military personnel and their spouses to appropriate open positions inside the company. Level 3 representatives provide coaching and education on best practices in submitting job applications, as well as resume- and career-building tips, helping veterans and their spouses better position themselves for success. The company actively participates in supporting service members from all branches of the military, whether transitioning from active duty or serving in the Guard or Reserves.

"Supporting our veterans in finding a rewarding career after serving in the military is important to our executive leadership and employees – not only because we appreciate their courage and commitment to protecting our country, but because we see it as a smart business investment," said Laurinda Pang, chief Human Resources officer for Level 3. "In addition to having diverse skill sets, our veterans have the dedication, leadership skills and values that translate directly to what we value as a company, and to what makes us successful. We believe that cultivating those characteristics in our employee base by supporting programs like the 10,000 Jobs Challenge can only strengthen our company."

In the next twelve months, Milicruit will increase the overall number of national career fairs it hosts from four events to 12, and will conduct standalone virtual career fairs for soldiers serving overseas. Level 3 plans to participate in all events as an active partner in supporting veteran hiring. In addition, Milicruit will feature two standalone virtual career fairs for military spouses as part of their commitment to the challenge. The first annual military spouse event is scheduled for May 7, 2012, in honor of Military Spouse Appreciation Day. Employers wishing to join the 10,000 Jobs Challenge can get more information emailing 10k@milicruit.com or visiting www.10000jobs.com.

"We are grateful that Level 3 has stepped up to join the 10,000 Jobs Challenge. Their support and continued focus on helping our veterans connect to careers contributes significantly to reaching our goal and we look forward to their success in hiring veterans and military spouses," said Kevin O'Brien, vice president business development, Milicruit.

Level 3's executive management team is committed to ensuring that our veteran outreach employment efforts afford the nation's veteran workforce the opportunity to be considered for a wide variety of employment opportunities.
