Milicruit and State of Wisconsin Partner for Midwest Virtual Career Fair for Veterans and Military Spouses

Dec 9, 2011

MADISON, Wis., Dec. 9, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Governor Scott Walker and the Wisconsin Departments of Veterans Affairs, Workforce Development, and Military Affairs announce that UBM Studios' Milicruit, the recognized leader for virtual career fairs for veterans, is partnering with Wisconsin and five other Midwestern states to produce a Midwest Virtual Career Fair on December 13.  Wisconsin is reaching out to veterans seeking jobs, and to employers, to expand access to workforce development resources aimed at individuals, veterans, businesses and workforce professionals.

"Connecting Wisconsinites with jobs, with a strong focus on employment for veterans, is a top priority," said Governor Scott Walker.  "Virtual career fairs online are an innovative way to help veterans find employment that matches their interests and skills."

The Midwest Virtual Career Fair by UBM Studios' Milicruit is a job fair for veterans and military personnel to come together in an interactive 3D virtual setting.  It is open to all active duty personnel, Guard and Reserve, veterans and military spouses, and will showcase dozens of industry leading employers and government agencies who are committed to helping veterans find suitable employment after serving our nation.  The Fair will run on Tuesday, December 13, 2011, from 1:00 – 3:00 CST.

Milicruit brings the career fair to job seekers and provides the ability to "walk" an exhibit floor, visit employer booths, view and apply for jobs, chat with job recruiters, network with peers, and perhaps even line up a follow-up video interview.  The veterans virtual career fair is free for all veterans and military spouses to attend.

"We're proud to have Wisconsin as a partner in this virtual career fair," said Kevin O'Brien, Vice-President of Business Development, UBM Studios' Milicruit.  "We're pleased to see state agencies doing all they can to help veterans find suitable employment."

Other states joining in the December 13 event are Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Iowa, and Ohio.

Each year 350,000 veterans nationwide leave active duty and many of them enter the civilian job market.  Milicruit.com aids veterans through the opportunity to register for virtual career fairs by building a profile, and employers are able to fully interact with the job seekers.  The career fair offers virtual booths, job postings, company videos and presentations, live chats with company representatives, video interviewing, and resume and interview assistance.

The Veterans Career Fair is supported by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs VetSuccess, Military Officers Association of America (MOAA), Wounded Warrior Project, Disabled American Veterans, and other organizations.

Veterans interested in attending the event and employers interested in participating in the event can register at www.veteranscareerfair.com.

"The Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs provides employment information on the department website," said Secretary John A. Scocos.  "We want to provide the opportunity for this veterans virtual career fair for our service members and veterans.  The department, in partnership with the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development, will be posting information links about this event and future veterans virtual job fairs on our site, as part of our mission to reach out to veterans looking for employment assistance."
